fill the classes.

// What we deliver

The five parts of a gym site
that never sit still.

// Where it leaks

What stops somebody
joining at midnight.

Leisure DB counted 7,009 gyms in the UK in its State of the UK Fitness Industry Report 2024. Nearly all of them are selling the same hour of somebody's day, and the timetable is the thing being sold. We still open sites where it exists as a download, or as a screenshot of a spreadsheet, or not at all beyond a line telling people to ask at reception. None of those can be read one-handed, and none of them appear in a search.

The second leak is the price. Plenty of gyms hold the figure back for the tour, reasoning that a visit sells harder than a number does. Our experience is that this filters out the people who were never joining anyway and loses a share of the ones who were, because somebody comparing three gyms at midnight carries on to the two that answered the question.

Third is the address. A gym gets bought on how far it sits from a front door or a desk, and we still find sites with no map, no note about parking and nothing about which entrance works after six. That detail belongs on the page and in your Google Business Profile, worded the same way in both places so the two records agree.

Zap It Pest Control

Melbourne pest control is a crowded market and this operator was barely visible inside it, despite a strong local reputation. The overhaul covered the platform, a content rewrite around high-intent local terms, and a tighter internal linking structure meant to establish local authority. A studio with a chain on the next street carries that same gap between standing built offline and anything showing on a results page.

ResumeCroc

A career service working for students and executives alike, built from nothing on WordPress and taken through five phases. Its services page lays out named tiers, Starter Pack through Executive Priority, so a visitor can see the shape of the offer before contacting anybody. A membership page asks that same question: what belongs on the page, and what waits for the conversation.

// Our process

Build order for
a gym site.

01

Settle the timetable first

Before any design, we decide where classes live, whether the site reads them from your booking platform or holds them itself, and who on your team owns the weekly update. Everything else on the site is arranged around that answer.

02

Put the memberships on paper

Every tier, every add-on and every rule about freezing, cancelling and joining fees gets written out in full. The page structure then matches what you actually sell rather than a layout we assumed.

03

Templates and a shot list

Four templates cover it: the class page, the instructor page, the membership page and the offer page. Photography is planned as a shot list on your own floor at the hours you want people to picture themselves training.

04

Wire and test the joining route

Your booking or payment platform goes into the pages, then somebody joins for real on a phone, on a weak signal, start to finish, before anything goes live.

// Pricing

What a gym website
costs to build.

One gym, one timetable and a straightforward membership list will normally price at the £2,500 floor. We settle the whole figure at quote stage so nothing gets billed by the hour while the project runs.

What lifts it is usually the joining route. A gym happy to take enquiries and sign people up at the desk is a smaller build than one taking a first payment online, because that means a platform integration, a contract and a route back out when somebody cancels. Class booking with live spaces is the other big one, and a second location brings a full set of pages rather than a line added to an existing one. How we run all of that is on the web design page.

The number we quote is for the build. Your direct debit provider, your class booking platform and your card processor each bill you separately and stay in your own name, so the figure you compare between agencies should be the same kind of figure. Send over your timetable and your membership list and we will work through it with you on a call. The pricing page puts numbers against each tier.

// FAQ

Questions
we always get.

The other questions are answered on the brief. Fill it in or book a call.

£2,500 buys the build, and a single gym usually lands close to that. Timing deserves as much thought as the figure does. If January is your busiest window, a site landing in December earns through it, while the same work shipped in February waits a full year for the next one. Tell us the date you want to be selling and we price the schedule backwards from there.

Publish them. The tour sells well to somebody already standing in reception, and the page has to do its work hours earlier, while three tabs are open at midnight. Print the monthly figure, the annual figure, the joining fee and the freeze rule. Where corporate or off-peak rates genuinely depend on a conversation, say that in a line rather than hiding every number behind a form. Hotels wrestle with the identical decision about published rates, which web design for hotels goes into.

You do, and it takes minutes. If your booking platform holds the schedule, the site reads it live and nothing is typed twice. If the schedule lives in a spreadsheet, we build it as CMS entries instead, so a manager edits a class from a phone between sessions. Either way the version on the website matches the version on the wall, which is the whole point.

The ones you want strangers to find. Reformer, boxing, spin and over-sixties sessions are four separate searches with four separate audiences, and a combined timetable page will not rank for any of them. Give each one a page saying what happens in the hour, how hard it is, what to bring and who leads it. Sessions only your existing members book can stay as rows on the timetable.

Yes, and we would build it that way by default. Tier chosen, details entered, payment taken and a welcome email sent, all inside the browser on a phone. The platform holding your direct debits carries on doing that job and we embed it rather than replacing it. Where you want a conversation before a contract, the same route books a call instead of taking payment.

It can carry the things people ring reception about: bank holiday hours, a class moved, a pool closed, a new instructor starting. Putting those on the site and pushing them to your email list from the same place means one update reaches everybody. Some gyms also use a members area for programmes and notices, which is a bigger build and worth costing separately.

Almost always, and it is the change owners notice first. Manufacturer shots of equipment and library images of somebody mid-burpee sell a room nobody will recognise when they walk in. We would plan a shoot on your own floor, in your own classes, with your own members, at the hours you are trying to fill. If that is out of reach this year, good phone photography edited properly beats anything bought in.
