// The brief

The job starts
on somebody's phone.

ONS Construction Statistics, Great Britain 2024 counted 370,770 VAT or PAYE registered construction firms in Great Britain. Only the ones working your postcodes matter to you, and against those the site has a narrow job: prove you do this work, prove other people were glad they called, and make calling easy.

Our experience is that this happens on a phone, one-handed, often while the problem is still going on, and that single condition decides most of the build. Anything that needs a mouse, a wide screen or patience with a loading bar is working against the visit.

The general approach is on our web design service page. If your business turns on appointments booked in advance rather than calls answered today, web design for solicitors covers that longer shape of enquiry.

// What we deliver

Proof, speed
and the paperwork.

01

A four-field quote form

Name, number, what needs doing, and a photo upload for the thing they are looking at. It works without an account, stays on one screen, and can be finished one-handed standing in a driveway.

02

Reviews beside the work

Google reviews placed on the service page they relate to, so the roofing enquiry reads roofing feedback, instead of every review being parked on one page a visitor has to go looking for.

03

Certifications in text

Whatever you hold goes on the page as readable text with its number: Gas Safe, NICEIC, a trade association membership, public liability cover. Buried inside a scanned certificate image, none of it is searchable or checkable.

04

Trade business markup

HomeAndConstructionBusiness structured data naming your trade, service area, hours and phone, mirrored on the Google listing so search engines are handed one consistent set of details.

05

Weight budget

No video hero, self-hosted fonts and a hard cap on page size, because the visit often happens on patchy mobile signal rather than on office broadband.

// The faults

What goes wrong
between search and call.

Start with the phone number that cannot be tapped. It sits in a header image, or as plain text a browser will not turn into a call, so somebody holding the phone has to memorise eleven digits and dial them by hand. This is where most of the lost calls go. The fix is a real tel link pinned to the header at every screen size, with WhatsApp beside it where you use that for work.

Photography is the next one. Either there are no job pictures at all, which leaves a visitor with nothing but your word, or there are forty of them at full camera resolution, which makes the gallery crawl and pushes the layout around while it loads. We take before and after pairs from your own phone, crop and compress them, and serve each at the size the screen asks for with width and height set.

Then there are the surrounding towns. A site that names only its base town struggles once the same search is run from the next one along, so the work is a real page per town you cover, carrying the jobs you do there and the travel arrangements. Duplicating one page and swapping the name is the pattern Google's own doorway pages guidance warns about, so the content has to differ or the page should not exist.

Mr Pest Killer

Franchise competitors held the top spots for almost every high-intent Melbourne query, and this was a brand new domain with nothing behind it. Every pest problem got its own landing page instead of sharing one, each carrying a click-to-call header, a free inspection form and the team's 4.8 star rating, with a local SEO campaign running underneath.

Zap It Pest Control

A strong local reputation that stayed invisible for the queries worth having, because the original build was never made for modern search. Three workstreams ran together: an SEO-first WordPress rebuild, a content rewrite around Melbourne terms, and technical work on image compression, caching and speed.

// Our process

Build order for
a trade site.

01

What you get called for

We list the jobs you actually want more of, check which of them people search for and in what words, and drop the ones with no demand. That list becomes the service pages, and it is usually shorter than the list on the current website.

02

Photos and proof

Then we collect the evidence: job photographs from your phone, Google reviews, trade body memberships, insurance and any certification you hold. This is the stage that slows projects down, so we start it in week one and give you a shot list rather than asking for everything at once.

03

Built and tested on a phone

Templates get built mobile-first and reviewed on real handsets before anything is signed off. We press the call button on every page, send a quote request through end to end, and measure the page weight against the budget agreed at the start.

04

Towns, then tracking

Town pages go on last so each one can be written with something specific to say. Your Google Business Profile is aligned to the site details, call tracking goes in if you want it, and for the opening month we report which pages are picking up impressions.

// Pricing

What a trade website
costs to build.

The floor is £2,500. A sole trader or a two-van firm covering four to six services and a few towns usually lands on it, and you have that number before we start.

It rises with page count more than anything else. Ten services across twelve towns is a hundred and twenty combinations, and we will talk you out of most of them, because in our experience a smaller set of pages with real content earns more than a large set of near-identical ones. Beyond page count, a gallery running to hundreds of images, a quote calculator or a booking diary each add build time.

Ongoing search work is priced separately. A new site with clean structure and schema picks up some ground on its own, and growing rankings month after month runs as a local SEO retainer you can start whenever suits. Book a call with your service list and postcodes and we will price it, or read the pricing page first.

// FAQ

Questions
we always get.

The other questions are answered on the brief. Fill it in or book a call.

£2,500 is the entry point, and for a lot of trades that is the whole thing. Where the full brief comes in higher, we usually stage it: launch with the services that already bring you work, then add the rest once the site has paid for the first phase. You get both numbers up front so the decision is yours rather than a surprise halfway through.

Only where you will actually turn up. The shortlist comes out of two things: how far the van realistically goes, and which postcodes your diary from the past year is full of. Anywhere that clears both tests gets a page of its own. For most sole traders that comes to a handful. We can add another later when the workload shifts.

Yes, and it is the first thing we build. Your number sits in the header on every page as a tap-to-call link, so one thumb press starts the call. We add WhatsApp beside it if you use it for work, and we write a short line about what happens when you are on a job, so somebody who gets voicemail knows a call back is coming.

Send us what you have from your phone. We crop, straighten, colour correct and compress them, then serve each one at the size the visitor's screen needs so a gallery does not stall on mobile data. In our view a handful of before and after pairs from the same job carries more weight than a hundred finished shots, so we ask you to start photographing the mess as well as the result.

Yes, and we place them next to the work they describe rather than collecting them on one testimonials page. A review about a rewire belongs on the electrical page. We display genuine reviews you have received, and we will not write reviews or arrange for anyone else to write them, which is worth saying plainly because we get asked.

It is designed for exactly that. We skip video backgrounds, self-host the fonts, compress every image and set a page weight budget at the start of the build that we test against before launch. The aim is a page that opens on patchy mobile data in a van or a loft, because that is where a lot of these visits actually happen.

We cannot put a date on it. A new site launches with clean structure, schema and a working call route, which is the groundwork the ranking work then builds on. Ranking for competitive local terms takes months of consistent search work, so if calls are the point we would talk about a local SEO retainer alongside the build.
